A unique perspective displaying biofluoresence in marine life. The technique of using blue light and yellow barrier filters results in display. Finding out what fluoresces underwater at night is one of my favourite research activities here at Wild Derrynane.
Bio-fluoresence in fish and other marine life is faily common but not well studied (or photographed) in Ireland. In 2015 I began to photograph and film it here at Wild Derrynane, the results are amazing and showed this phenomenon to the public for the first time in Ireland.
Some organisms absorb light, transform it, and eject it at a different wavelength. This wavelength is seen as a different color, usually either orange, red or yellow. It is very variable amongst marine life and could indicate its potential use in communication and mating.
